I went searching for something new tonight and I certainly found something... "ROLEN". Rolen is an "In your face" Heavy Metal band from Chattanooga, TN!
These guys have somewhat of an 80's hair band sound... only a bit heavier.
The Band's history:
David Rolen and Brian James are the two founding members. David was the former frontman for MADAM X, taking Sabastian Bachs place when he left to join Skid Row. The band plays high energy live shows and is often compared to Judas Priest, and Metallica.
Band Members:
David Rolen - Vocals
Brian James - Guitars
Tim Parker - Bass
Jason Reed - Drums

Free Album Download: Mortiis Releases A Free Album
Heavy Metal band Mortiis has outdone themselves. They have released a full-length, completely FREE downloadable album! The new album is titled 'Perfectly Defect'. Releasing it as a free download was decided after a lot of consideration. The band explained about that decision, "The new model of the music business is important to keep in mind; there´s a new mentality out there in terms of how people acquire their music now. For better or worse, music seems to have become a medium a lot of people aren´t prepared to pay for in the old fashioned way. So, we paid to record it out of our own pockets 'cos we thought it would be a really cool gift to our fans that have been waiting around for ages for something new to come out."
Mortiis spent most of the past two years writing and recording the album 'The Great Deceiver', which was a long-awaited follow up to 2004's 'The Grudge', and the 2007 remix album, 'Some Kind of Heroin'.
The band goes on to say, "When we were writing, we were coming up with all sorts of inspired stuff, a really varied collection of music. I think we really captured a cool vibe here. It's not easy marrying anger with melody, but I believe we did it. The songs on Perfectly Defect were created across a period of time, and I believe it shows in terms of what inspired these songs. They're rather soundtracky in a dark and sometimes
bombastic way."
The concept of digital distribution has opened up a whole new empowerment for Mortiis, allowing them artist control over their own artistic destiny.
The Perfectly Defect album:
01. Closer To The End
02. Perfectly Defect
03. Sensation Of Guilt
04. Sole Defeat
05. Thieving Bastards
06. Halo Of Arms
07. Impossible To Believe
08. This Absolution

Farewell Ronnie
It has been a long time since my last entry on Heavy Metal Noise. I had taken a break to deal with several issues. Well I am back now to continue writing about the music that I love. My last post was in September last year when Ronnie James Dio had just been diagnosed with stomach cancer. It was a tribute to him along with a "get well soon" message. Unfortunately, on May 16th of this year, Ronnie passed away. The official message from his wife Wendy is below...
"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever." Love, Wendy
Ronnie's passing was a huge loss both to those who were personally close to him, and to his many fans around the world.
I attended an Iron Maiden concert in Pittsburgh this past July. It was an amazing concert (what else could it be? I mean it was Iron Maiden!). A few songs into the show, Bruce Dickenson announced that as a teenager it was Ronnie, while in the group Rainbow, that had inspired him to persue a career in music. He then dedicated the song "Blood Brothers" to the gone but never forgotten Ronnie James Dio.
Here is that dedication, althought not from that same concert... it was 4 days later in Chicago.
